Kooley High drops their long-awaited project, "Eastern Standard Time." Will you continue to sleep or actually peep one of the illest groups in hiphop today?
EvergreenOne & Todd Sykes – Milk On Wax (LP)
Tacoma's EvergreenOne and Todd Sykes' "Milk On Wax" sounds more like a homage to 90's boom bap... That's what I'm tryin to hear!!
The Roots finally come with that ISHT!!!
The Roots come through on their 11th studio album, "How I Got Over." The Roots went back to the basics, but was it enough to make the classic Roots record we been waiting for?
Fashawn pays homage with “Ode to Illmatic”
Fashawn drops his homage to the classic "Illmatic," by remaking all of the tracks off the aforementioned album.
Tacoma’s duo of EvergreenOne and Todd Sykes drop the highly anticipated (at least amongst my folks, ha) “Milk On Wax” ep. If you’re a fan of boom bap hiphop, do yourself a favor and download this album. Todd Sykes’ beats will take you back to a time when you used to love hiphop, and he does his thing on the mic. EvergreenOne’s personality, delivery and unadulterated energy on the mic are on display… look forward to seeing these cats grow. Until then, peep this album!
If you slept on D.Black’s “Ali’Yah” album in 2009, you missed one of the best albums released that year. Seattle’s D.Black picks up right where he left off with this ridiculous EP produced entirely by B.Brown. I don’t know who this cat is, but he got slaps!! Obviously D.Black has l’ics… AND I can knock it in the whip with the kiddies. Nguyen nguyen situation for me!!
I tweeted it earlier today, but from what I’ve heard off of Kendrick Lamar’s new album, O.D. (which drops September 15th), I think it has a legit chance to get the most spins of any album from me this year… now, since Kanye, The Away Team, Evidence, and many others still have to drop, I’ll let ya’ll know in the future. In the meantime, peep this video and the joints below!
Tacoma’s own Rockwell Powers and DJ Phinisey drop the Kings & Comics EP. Rockwell Powers on the rhymes and Phinisey on the beats.
Rockwell continues to improve every time out, AND the dude stays on his grind! Be on the lookout for his upcoming project with Seattle producer Ill Pill, “Kids in the Back 2.” He’s also the lead man of the band, 10th & Commerce. I told ya’ll he stays on his grind… There’s some bangers on here, Phinisey doesn’t disappoint behind the boards. Rockwell’s a throwback to the Def Jux days in my opinion… his voice is definitely one not easily forgotten. Download Kings & Comics.
I’m a Fresh Daily fan… Just wanted to post this random video off Fresh Daily’s “Mothership-Land” mixtape that recently dropped. If you haven’t downloaded it yet, what are you waiting for? He spits that raw raw, and even went with electronical sonical beats on this recent effort. Can’t be mad at cats switchin they styles up and growin’ as artists! Fresh Daily will be on your radar, one of these days.
A while back I posted HW’s “A Year’s Worth of Worry” album, which I was feelin’ heavily. Obviously, I follow @joshhw on twitter, and he posted this video earlier this summer (or was it spring?) after he picked up a mic randomly at a restaurant of some sort… it resonated with me because: a) dude can really spit, and b) the brothas near the end of the video had me DYIN! I feel em!
Now, HW is teaming up with Redlist and DJ Emoh Betta to form the Scribblenauts, and their first release from the EP “Low Light Turbulence” is called Sands of Time… check it out below! (btw, the scratches on this record are just… smh.)
Off the “Sandwich Shop” ep, featuring these two over the Roots’ “Sandwiches” ep instrumentals. It’s good. Try it. Over there —–>>>>>
Also, Tanya Morgan will be in Seattle at Columbia Theater August 28th! Tacoma’s own City Hall (EvergreenOne, Todd Sykes, DJ Slimrock) will be on the bill also! Make sure to GET IT THERE.
I been following the AOK Collective product, Fresh Daily, for awhile. From his mixtape “Tomorrow is Today” to his last full LP, “The Gorgeous Killer in Crimes of Passion.” (which I purchased)
Last week he dropped this banger out of nowhere it seemed, and the innernets went nuts. Musically, @freshdotdaily drops his signature flow over a more sonic background throughout the album. Definitely a departure from his last album, but well done. His lyrics are always on point.
